Project Workshop

A workshop was run in October 2004 to "road-test" the new approach to driving skill with a group of experienced drivers. The outcome had a major influence on the content of the online book, and on the Mind Driving book that followed.

It was a 1-day event, covering the origin of the approach plus about half of the detailed topics in the full set.

The emphasis was on having some fun while discussing a deeply serious subject. And it turned out to be a very lively day indeed!

Eight drivers took part, of which:

  • five had passed an advanced test
  • one was also a RoSPA Gold driver
  • one was a driving instructor
  • three of the eight were women
  • five were motorcycle riders as well as car drivers
  • two had driven commercial trucks
  • one had been an ambulance driver

The form below was used collect their satisfaction with what they had seen during the day. The figures are the number who put a tick in that box, so each row totals 8. Taking the range of answers as 0-100%, the overall result is an outstanding 94%.

Comments included:

  • "A new approach to road safety. We have been waiting for this for years!"
  • "At last someone has thought through driving skills from the beginning. It is rigorous, sensible and it works."
  • "It definitely showed me how to compensate more safely for other people’s lack of awareness and ability."
  • "Very exciting, I can’t wait to see more!"
  • "Very interesting, incredibly enjoyable."
